20th World Orchid show was held in Singapore from 13-20 Nov 2011 at Marina Bay Sands Expo Hall at Basement 2. There are 3 buses services heading to Marina Bay Sands – Bus 97, 106 and 133. The last time Singapore hosted World Orchid Conference was in 1963
I was so happy to have complimentary weekday ticket to attend for the 20th World Orchid Show at Marina Bay Sands. The ticket also allowed people to visit the Flower Dome at Garden by the Bay anyday between 14-20 Nov 10am to 9pm (but only 1day entry on the day you visited the Flower Dome).
Have you found your little piece of paradise from the 20th World Orchid Show? There was indeed many different types of orchids used for this show.
There were quite a lot of interesting exhibitions at the 20th World Orchid Show from all different parts of the world. Such as Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Taiwan and many more as well as Ikebana(生け花 also known as living flowers or flower arrangement).
Here’s some of the exhibits I had seen during the show:
Yellow orchids were used for this decor. There’s some chinese calligraphy on the wall. Can you read those words? I can read some of them.
Can you see that there were a few different orchid species used for decorating the showcase? Did not expect the designer to put 2 models with peranakan kebaya (1 adult size & 1 children size).
Does this decor reminds you of somewhere especially the shape of the towers? Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?
Didn’t expect designer to use orchids to decor the mask character. Papua New Guinea is famous for all these masks.
Here’s another 1 from Papua New Guinea.
Does this reminds you of fairyland? So many colourful orchids used for this showcase from Thailand.
Does this colourful costume rings a bell to you? Yes, it is worn by 1 of the authenic group in Asia.
Why there’s a ‘cheetah’ resting here? Don’t worry it’s just a decor.
Showcase from Taiwan. I felt that I should have taken a better snapshot for this. I liked the baskets in this showcase. Nice and beautiful.
Beautiful and colourful right?
There were so many beautiful exhibits as well that I did not post on my blog.
Before I end off this post, I just want to show you a picture of 1 particular orchid. Yes, it is related to Singapore.
Our National Flower – Vanda Ms Joaquim.
Will update pictures of the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay in my future blogpost.
