My first trip to Pulau Ketam (Crab Island), Klang, Selangor, Malaysia.
I had never visited this place before however, I know Pulau Ketam is located on an island near Port Klang, Selangor Malaysia. It is an offshore island and people have to take a ferry from Port Klang to Pulau Ketam. You have to go to Port Klang – South Port to take the ferry to Pulau Ketam.
Port Klang was known as Port Sweetenham and was renamed as Port Klang. Port Klang also has a KTM Komuter station where people can take a train from KTM train station or KL Sentral to Port Klang.
You can buy the ferry ticket from the ferry terminal or buy the ticket on the ferry. Currently, each ticket costs around RM7 for a 45-minute ferry ride. If you are lucky enough, you may be able to spot dolphins during the ferry ride.
Here’s the available timings for the ferry rides from Port Klang to Pulau Ketam and vice versa.
Selamat Datang ke Pulau Ketam! Welcome to Crab Island! There are two villages on Pulau Ketam; Kampung Pulau Ketam and Kampung Sungai Lima.
I stayed the biggest hotel in Pulau Ketam – Hotel Sea Lion in Pulau Ketam within Kampung Pulau Ketam! It is located very near to Pulau Ketam Jetty. The owner of this hotel – Mr Andy Cha, is the village head of Pulau Ketam. He’s very friendly person and I enjoyed my stay in this hotel.
You can visit its website at http://www.sealion.com.my/index-sealion.html for its different packages and room types. 1 of the packages do allow people to have private karaoke party too!
Stayed in a room facing the jetty and the sea view. When there is low tide, you will love the sight of crabs moving about. It is not just one or a few, it is more than hundreds of crabs! Thus this place is named after crabs. This is only a small section of the area being taken by my digital camera.
Touring around the island is a must. People either walk, cycle with bicycles, take a boat ride or ride motorised bike within the island. No sight of cars and traffic lights at all! It is best to wear a comfortable pair of flat shoes to move about on wooden planks or concentrate ground. You can rent a bicycle at RM5 per day.
You will see a lot of salted fish and dried prawns on this island too. It is a good place to purchase a lot of dried sea products on Pulau Ketam at an affordable price.
Seafood meal is a must in Pulau Ketam, especially Ketam (Crab). Fresh from the sea.
Best to have a steamboat dinner there.
It is also good to explore part of Pulau Ketam with a boat ride to see the different village settlements (Chua Chu Kang, Hokkien village, Teochew village, Hainan village) and the

Enjoyed my stay in Pulau Ketam. It is quite different from the bustling cities of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Malaysia and Singapore. A form of quiet, kampong life on an island. No traffic lights. Happy people with not much worries. It was good to experience such simple life and learnt a lot. People must be contented with what they have in life.
Hope to come back to Pulau Ketam again! Will update part of this post with Chinese Characters!
How do I get to the jetty from Klang Bus Terminal. I am coming from Singapore.
Not sure. The jetty is nearer to KTM train station. Better to take KTM train
