Oz The Great and Powerful

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.

Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth, with a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire (credit not final). Grant Curtis, Palak Patel, Philip Steuer and Josh Donen are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in Singapore theaters on March 7, 2013.

Movie Review: The 3 Musketeers in 3D

Thank for my sis’s winning of free preview of THE 3 Musketeers in 3D at Shaw Theatre at Bugis on 24 October 2011. This movie is an adaptation from the book Les Trois Mousquetaires” (The 3 Musketeers in french). The motto of the 3 Musketeers is “all for one, one for all” (“tous pour un, un pour tous”)

The Three Musketeers Athos (Matthew Macfadyen), Porthos (Ray Stevenson) and Aramis (Luke Evans) as well as D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) joins in an adventure to fight against the villains of this movie –  Milady de Winter (Milla Jovovich), Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom) and Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz).

The poor d’Artagnan travels to Paris to join the Musketeers. He suffers misadventure and is challenged to a duel by each of three musketeers (Athos, Aramis and Porthos). Attacked by the Cardinal’s guards, the four unite and escape.

Then Milady and Cardinal plotted to steal Queen’s Anne’s jewellery and the 3 Musketeers and d’Artagnan had to settle for their adventures to retrieve the Jewellery to save Queen’s Anne.

Of course, this is my 1st time watching Orlando Bloom acting as a villain in this movie too. Towards the end of the movie, there’s a scene whereby it indicates that there will be part II of this 3 Musketeers movie too. So stay tune of the part II of this movie.

This English movie is based in France but the problem is the French King and some of the French people in this movie had the presence of English accent and does not sounded like French accent. If not, it will be more real. The clothes are great and reflects the fashion of the reign and period as well as the 3D effects.

I will give this movie 3.25 stars for the great cast and the chemistry between D’Artagnan and the 3 musketeers, 3D effects and comical scenes which made people laugh at

Here’s the trailer of the movie. Enjoy. It is out in the cinemas in Singapore from 26 October 2011 onwards if you are keen to watch.

Post A Week 2011: Write a review of the last movie you saw

The last movie I watched in the cinema recently was “One Day” about 1 week ago. It was a special premiere at Shaw Lido and I watched it with my friend.

“One Day” is a movie that spans over 20years. It stars with Anne Hathaway as Emma Motley and Jim Sturgess as Dexter Mayhew (the guy who voiced as Soren in the Guardians of the Ga’hoole as I did not he was the one for the owl movie I watched.) It is classified as a NC16 film (mature content) in Singapore as people need to be at least 16 years of age to watch this movie.

“One Day” is a film based on the David Nicholls best-seller about a boy and girl (Emma and Dexter) who graduate from the University of Edinburgh on July 15, 1988, and spend the night together. The story follows them by dropping in on July 15th of their lives year after year for  20 years.  Though they do not become romantically involved, they become friends and in subsequent years, their lives take them in different directions, but they keep in contact (via mail or meeting up with each other or phone call or a book?).

The 2 friends Emma and Dexter, chit chat with each other on their graduation day and spent a night together at Emma’s house. Dexter came from a rich family while Emma wasn’t. As time passes, Emma realised she fell in love with her good friend and attempted to tell him that she misses him and loves him but did not have a chance to let Dexter know. Dexter only realised how much he  needed Emma when his mother was sick with a terminal illness and listened to his father’s words. There were quite a few twists and turns during the period of time before they finally got together.

Here’s a trailer for the movie – One Day

I would say that it is very difficult to film this movie as the characters need to have different looks or different hairstyles and/or display different form of maturation for each different year. Anna Hathaway will have a variation of short, shoulder-length and long hair in this movie. While Jim Sturgess also changes his hairdo too.

I won’t be telling you what happen in the end but it is a sad ending that will make people cry. I will give this movie a 4 stars out of 5. Refreshing plots that may be related to real-life. This movie does have some scenes that will make you laugh too.

One Day will be out on Singapore Cinemas from 20 October 2011 onwards. I know US classified it as PG13 instead. So if you are interested to watch this movie, You must be at least 16 years old to watch this movie in Singapore due to some of the scenes in this movie.

Hugh Jackman stars as Charlie Kenton in Real Steel (coming in Singapore Cinemas on 6 Oct 2011)

Hugh Jackman stars as Charlie Kenton in Real Steel the movie. It will be shown in Singapore Cinemas on 6 October 2011 onwards! =)

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring.

Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender.

As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Movie Review: Fright Night

Fright Night

Thank you Nuffnang for the invite to watch Fright Night at the Cathay on 19 Sept 2011. The movie does frighten me off with some scary scenes, (thus it is called Fright Night!) Do note that this is rated as a NC16 Movie (means people must be at least 16 years old to watch this movie) due to coarse language and scary horrifying scenes in the movie.

About Fright Night sypnosis:

This movie is slightly different from the Fright Night filmed in 1985.

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all—he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl, Amy Peterson, in high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend Edward (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—and everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice.

After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone that he’s telling the truth, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

And the adventures between Charlie and Jerry begin after Jerry found out that Charlie knows his secret. Jerry also turned some of Charlie’s friends into vampires too. Charlie has some difficulties to deal with Jerry the vampire and with assistance from Peter Vincent (David Tennant), Charlie overcame the obstacle and able to get rid of Jerry successfully.

What to find out more about how Charlie get rid of Jerry, watch Fright Night at the cinemas!

Here’s the movie trailer for Fright Night!

My thoughts of watching this movie:

It is a bit comical especially on the part where Charlie gets to know Peter Vincent when Peter Vincent starts to remove his clothes, wigs, false moustache and accessories all over the place as well as the way he talks to Charlie. As well as when Edward is trying to tell Charlie about Charlie’s new neighbour.

There are some scenes that are scary and bloody when Jerry bites his victims. Woo…. bloody fangs.

I will give this film 3.75 stars out of 5.
